I’ve been asking my clients this all week. It’s funny how susceptible and fragile our minds are to media coverage and interpretation. There is no question that the news this week for the financial market is not good. There are a lot of people who have lost money, but for the most part, the majority of us are not in as bad of condition as the media would make it out to be. There is a reason why the federal government put into place the safety nets to protect our money – so we don’t panic in times like this!!!
It is highly likely that the majority of your assets are protected under FDIC or SIPC. I know the market is down and stocks are getting hammered, but over time, history has proven that the market will come back – as long as we don’t get caught up in the media frenzy and panic!
The majority of our financial service clients are just fine. I thought I’d be spending the week holding hands and keeping people from jumping off buildings, but this has not been the case (with the exception of maybe one or two people). Yes, it’s been busy as they comfort their own clients – but nobody is jumping off buildings. The real game here is to ask ourselves – ‘where is the opportunity?’ How can we utilize what has happened to learn something new that can be applied later?
We all have a choice at any given moment as to how we will respond to a situation. So much suffering is created when we react too quickly without thinking for ourselves and reframing the situation. We get so caught up in the drama of every day life that we don’t realize that we have the option at this very moment to stop and ask ourselves a question that will reframe our mindset to support growth and forward movement. When we are paralyzed by fear, we are standing still shaking or worse, pulling the plug on everything.
I encourage you to stop for a moment and ask yourself ‘what opportunity do I have to turn my mindset around?’ ‘What opportunity do I have to turn this situation around?’ Many great business ideas have come from solving a major problem or issue. Maybe this is your opportunity? Just for a moment, turn off the buzz of the news, you might just hear the knocking at your door, the knocking of opportunity.
