Are you in front or behind the curve?
I’m speaking of the technology curve. In working on our new site: www.RevenueBlitz.com I am learning more then I ever have about today’s technology and I haven’t even scratched the surface. I used to pride myself on always be up on what is the latest and greatest in technology, but now I feel it is a full time job to even come close to staying in front of the curve.
Let’s start with the internet: you have blogging, pinging, wiki-ing, dig-ing, hyperlinks, trading links and so on. And that is just pertaining to the blogosphere (yes, that is a new term as well). My ‘web guy’ as I like to call him – I think the official term is Webmaster, had to talk me through the list of how to promote our new site. It was an hour long conversation and I’m still trying to figure things out! The internet is the new wave of communication and if you are not riding the wave, it will wash you out!
You can also use technology to improve you and your team’s efficiency. Alone, it can save you and your people hours every week (after you’ve figured it all out), and as we all know, time equals money. There are so many programs, applications and software not to simplify just about any task you might need to do. To make the task of staying ahead of the curve, I recommend that you commit to learning one new piece of technology per week that will simplify your life.
Technology has also made communicating much easier and faster. My husband is a big fan of texting, he says that it is a guys’ best friend for communicating – it’s quick and to the point. However, I also feel that technology has gotten in the way of real communication. Don’t let email or texting get in the way of picking up the phone and touching base with your best clients. Nothing will ever take the place of a nice handwritten note with a real stamp, delivered by a real postman. If you really want to make someone’s day, do it the old-fashioned way – your clients will remember it.
